Wow – what a strange time to be a real estate agent. Having to learn, on the fly, a whole new way to run your business during the lockdown couldn’t have been fun.
The uncertainty of not knowing when you’d be allowed to “re-open” had to be stressful. Although we’re still not out of the woods when it comes to COVID-19, restrictions are much more relaxed now than they were over the past few months.
Often, after a period of inactivity, it’s hard to get your groove back. And, re-entering a housing market with a smaller inventory than we experienced before the crisis offers plenty of excuses to slide into a real estate slump.
Yes, it’s hard to remain inspired right now, but we may have a solution for you in the form of Ted Talks and motivational real estate videos to help you get your mojo back.
We mentioned this brilliant Ted Talk in our recent piece for new agents on rejection in real estate. It certainly merits another mention here.
Instead of shying away from his life-long and success-devastating fear of rejection, Jang actually challenged it, over the course of 100 days.
Lighthearted yet thought provoking, it’s an enjoyable 15-minute view that will have you heading to your nearest Crispy Crème Donuts to ask for a custom-made creation and hoping your request will be rejected.
Retired Navy Seal and author, Jocko Willink knows a thing or two about self-discipline.
When you’re stuck – in a slump – the more time that you stay there, “… you are losing ground … every second counts.”
Learn that your excuses are lies, what to do when you’re sick of the grind and more in this powerful video.
Known as the “Fall Forward” speech, Washington claims that he didn’t want to make the speech because he was afraid he would make a fool of himself.
Sound familiar?
It’s why many agents can’t pick up the phone or make a decent listing presentation.
But, as Washington goes on to claim, “Nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks.”
What are the “risks” that keep you from becoming unstuck?
“The secret to greater confidence, the secret to beating self-doubt …” happens in five seconds, according to Robbins.
“One five-second decision at a time.”
She calls it “The 5-Second Rule” and walks you through this simple (she calls it “stupid,” but effective) process to help you build confidence and get unstuck.
Have you ever considered that perhaps you’re stuck because you don’t have a goal – a vision for your future? It’s challenging to feel passion with what you do for a living when it isn’t what you want to do.
When you’re “shooting for a goal,” all the tasks that others in real estate find onerous – the cold calls, the door knocking the relentless need to generate leads – are easier because they’re steps toward your goal.
This video from the former California “Governator” will definitely get you thinking.
Brown nails the concept of being stuck when he quotes basketball Isaiah Thomas, during a pre-game conversation with team members:
“I’m either gonna shoot us in or shoot us out. But I’m not going to not do anything.”
Brown expands on the thought by reminding us that we can’t make a basket unless we shoot the ball, “you can’t hit a homerun unless you take a swing at it.”
We love this video and think you will too.
Finding a niche is one of the best things you can do when you're trying to stand out online, and given the events of the year, landlords are looking like they're going to be a hot group to target moving forward. Here's why focusing on the landlord lead may be the best decision you've ever made:

As we come to a close on the first week that most of us in the US are self-quarantining due to the COVID-19 outbreak (also known as coronavirus), we’ve already begun to feel the effects on the real estate industry. Direct marketing, physical face-to-face meetings are very much being put on hold. Not all agents are making this switch, however. As we discuss in today’s episode of In The Lead, there are agents who are still very much taking the business-as-usual approach when it comes to their marketing efforts. One agent we spoke to is still conducting open houses, but...
