With over 100 million active users, Pinterest is a social network that cannot be overlooked. By this point, you’re probably familiar with the site, but are you using it to grow your business? Pinterest is the fastest growing website by overall member growth and the average pin will remain relevant far longer than content published on other social networks.
The lifespan of a Tweet easily has to be measured in minutes and you’ll be lucky to have an un-boosted Facebook post stay in newsfeeds for more than a few hours. An average pin can come up in searches literally months after it was pinned. And if this isn’t enough to make you sign up, it’s also a fact that nearly 50% of users have purchased 5 or more products or services they’ve pinned.
Pinterest is so much more than recipes and cat photos! It’s a lead generation machine!
Today I’m going to walk you through some simple, yet effective ways to increase your lead generation efforts on Pinterest.
Here we go!
We’ve discussed why you need to have a professional page on Facebook in addition to your personal account and the same is true for Pinterest. There are many benefits of using a business account on Pinterest and perhaps the greatest of those perks is the ability to track your progress and engagement with Pinterest’s built-in analytics. You really want access to these performance metrics.
You can create this business account here:
Having a business account will also enable you to use Pinterest Ads and Promoted Pins.
If you’ve been spending money on Facebook, then you may or may not be interested in adding in one more digital ad campaign to your monthly marketing budget, but there are some pretty cool factors that set advertising on Pinterest a part from other social networks.
Pinterest offers two kinds of ad campaigns: One to drive engagement and one to get more traffic back to your website, or an Engagement Campaign and Traffic Campaign.
These campaigns are initiated through Promoted Pins. The coolest part of a Traffic Campaign is that you only pay when someone ACTUALLY clicks through to your site! This is call Pay Per Click or PCP. That’s right. You’ll only start spending money when a lead goes to your site after clicking on the pin you promote. This is so much more cost effective than boosting individual posts or promoting your page on Facebook where you’re paying whether or not you reach your intended audience and see your desired results.
Your Promoted Pins will also live on long after your campaign ends too. Pinterest will take you through the process step-by-step, including helping you find the perfect keywords for your pin. Get started today. It’s easy!
Once you setup your business account, it’s time to optimize your profile. Your page, just like on all social networks, is important. This is where you get to provide you contact information, an informative description about yourself and your objectives and a link to your agent website. You can optimize your profile by integrating keywords in your description to increase search result visibility.
Visually appealing and interesting boards play a crucial role in increasing Pinterest traffic and generating leads. You want your pins to educate your audience and give some insight into what you do. You want to include a mix of content on your boards and have themes for each that speak to your skills and niche, but are also diverse. A great way to start building brand awareness and increase your followers on Pinterest is to engage those in your network who are already succeeding on Pinterest. You’d be surprised how many agents like you have already established a great network on the site. You can repin their content, leave a quick comment and once you start pinning regularly there are many opportunities to join shared boards.
A shared board will be maintained by the original person who created it and they can invite other people to pin relevant content on that board. This is an easy way to expand your network and build a wider following.
Start by dedicating 30 minutes a day to Pinterest and finding 3 boards that you want to contribute to. Then like and repin images from that board daily. After you’ve done this for a while, shoot an email to the owner of the board and ask them for access to it.
It’s also a good idea to see who is repinning your content and commenting on your pins. You can follow them or comment back to continue to build relationships and broaden your outreach.
You want to focus on pinning stellar content in your niche and this will help to establish you as an expert in your area. This will also help you to build authority and credibility so, over time, followers will start looking to you as a go-to source for content. And this is just one more great opportunity to tell them about your real estate blog and website. Once you’ve gained trust, you can bet that those who are looking to you for information on Pinterest will be happy to do business with you as well.
So, what kind of images should you pin? There are basically three ways to pin content:
You can use Canva.com to create custom Pinterest graphics and images. They even have a free template that’s designed specifically for Pinterest and more layouts for just about everything else you could possibly think of. Upload your own photos, or work with their free backgrounds and texts to create unique and cool images.
Here’s an example of me creating a new pin in Canva:
Although your endgame is still to grow your followers and drive traffic to your website, repinning relevant content can help you get there. Every time you repin a pin from someone else, that person is going to know about it. They’ll either see it in a notification on their Pinterest account or via email. So you’ll be filling your boards with great content and building awareness at the same time. And the person or business you repinned from could easily return the favor by repinning some of your content and exposing your pins to all of their followers as well.
This is where your blog comes into play. You need to have a blog that is being consistently maintained and updated with fresh content. When you pin images from your blog posts on Pinterest, you’ll be providing a direct link to your site for Pinterest users.
You’ll want to do all three of these things consistently to maximize your Pinterest presence. Pinners looking to grow their audience and build brand awareness are also encouraged to be active on Pinterest at least 5 days out of the week. This may sound like a lot at first, but the results will be more than worth it.
The easiest way to get on this schedule is just to tack on an additional half hour to your dedicated marketing time and go from there. Start by pinning just 5 things and work your way up. If you can hit 20 pins per day, you’ll be generating free quality leads in no time.
Keep in mind that the purpose of Pinterest is to collect and share useful content. You can drive more SEO-based traffic by using keywords to optimize your images. Your board titles, descriptions and each individual pin description should have targeted keywords in them so your content will show up when pinners search for topics related to your business and services.
And there you have it! If you execute on all these things you’re bound to see some awesome results, including an increase in qualified leads.
